Novosibirsk is the largest city in the Siberia district in Russia. It was April when we visited there but it was still cold. The minimum temperature on that day was 5 degrees below zero. Novosibirsk was a very beautiful and attractive city. The picture is Novosibirsk station, which has a high historical value.
ノボシビルスクはロシアのシベリア地区最大の都市。4月でも最低気温が-5℃と寒かったですが、とても親しみを感じる美しい街でした。写真は歴史的価値の高い建物ノボシビルスク駅。

The city has established a sister-city relationship with Sapporo, Hokkaido. There is a Hokkaido Cultural Center. It snowed on the second day of our trip. They said it rarely happened in April. It was so cold but it made our trip memorable.
札幌と姉妹都市になっているそうで、市内には北海道文化センターがあります。滞在2日目にはノボシビルスクの4月には珍しく雪が降りました。この日は寒かったですが、いい思い出になりました。

Novosibirsk state University of Architecture, Design and Arts (NSUADA) fully supported us. They arranged the necessary transportation and guided us to see around the city with interpreter and volunteers.
今回のツアーではイベント時のサポートだけでなく、空港までの送り迎えや市内観光などをノボシビルスク芸大がバスをチャーターして通訳やポランティアさん付きで案内してくださいました。

We participated in the International Festival of Design “Krasny Prospect” in NSUADA.International Festival of Design “Krasny Prospect” was being held at NSUADA during our stay.
建築とデザイン、アートの学科があるノボシビルスク州立芸術大学。“Krasny Prospect”という国際デザイン・フェスティバルが開催中でした。

With the support of the university, we gave lectures about photography and held the Portfolio walk during the festival. They put a board in front of the main entrance and a notice explaining what the lectures would be like.
その中のイベントとしてSAMURAI FOTOのレクチャーとポートフォリオ・ウォークが行われました。正面玄関にはその内容が掲載されたボードが飾られていました。

We greatly appreciated Prof. Dina Sin and Andrey Martynov supporting and helping us during our stay.
滞在中のすべてをサポートしてくださった建築科教授ディナさんと、すべてをオーガナイズしてくださったアンドレイ・マルティノフさん。本当にお世話になりました。

Yoshida showed a short movie of his artwork. As he had been inspired by a feeling of owe when he saw victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011 praying toward the sea, he decided to start the project.
吉田先生は2011年の東日本大震災のあとに被災地で見た海に祈る人々にインスパイアされたプロジェクトなどを感動的な動画とともに披露。

Hasumi showed his artworks of “Karesansui”, and explained what the Karesansui was. He also showed the technique of platinum printing.
蓮見さんは枯山水をモチーフにした作品について、「枯山水とは」を解説するとともに、撮影風景やプラチナプリントの技法を見せてくれました。

Chiyoda talked about her long journey for thinking about her mother who died after the long struggles of illness. She told the audience what the prayer meant to her, what made her take pictures and what she got from there.
長い闘病の末に亡くなったお母様を思いながら、「弔う」ことについて深く考えた旅を作品にした千代田さんはその結果、何を得たのかを語りました。

Due to the low birthrate, there are a lot of abolished schools in Japan. Musical instruments and desks got ruined. Sasaki took photographs of them. He wanted the audience to feel the sound of them.
少子化により廃校となった田舎の小学校で朽ちていく楽器や机。それらの物が発しているような音を表現した。佐々木さんはその音を体感してもらう試みをしました。

NSUADA recently has many women students. And many of them came to hear our lectures. We were impressed with their enthusiasms.
ノボシビルスク芸大は最近は女性がとても多いそうですが、駆けつけてくれた学生の多くも女性でした。熱心に聞いてくださる姿に私たちも感動しました。

Preparing for the lecture is necessary, but more than that, we realized how precious time we had there was. We are sure all the experiences there would be utilized for our aim of the cultural exchange in the future.
国際フェスティバルでのレクチャーのためには準備も必要ですが、今後の国際交流にも活かせるとても貴重な体験になったことを私たちは改めて実感しました。

The Portfolio Walk was held in front of the room where we had the lectures. Many students came to join after classes and the corridor was full of people.
レクチャー室の前で行われたポートフォリオ・ウォーク。授業が終わった生徒さんたちが次々に来てくれて、廊下は歩けないほどの人だかりになりました。

Kazui is a new member of SAMURAI FOTO. He was delighted to have such a great experience in abroad.
数井さんはSAMUARI FOTOでは最も新しいメンバー。メンバーとしての初の海外活動でこのような経験ができたことに感激していました。

Sato liked to talk with people. Having met so many people there, she was thoroughly delighted to communicate with them. Her artworks were acclaimed, too.
いろんな方とコミュニケーションするのが大好きな佐藤素子さんはその喜びが体中から発せられていました。作品も絶賛されて大活躍でした。

As all the people in the Portfolio Walk were all enthusiastic, and asked so many questions about the artworks’ concepts, Aoyama eagerly communicated with them.
このポートフォリオ・ウォークに来てくださった方々は本当に熱心に作品のコンセプトを尋ねてくださいました。青山さんも熱心にそれに応えていました。

As a leader of SAMURAI FOTO, Hasumi had been very busy during this group exhibition. He explained about his artwork and his philosophy to the audience.
SAMUARI FOTOとしてのグループ展でもあったので、会長の蓮見さんはいろいろと忙しかったですが、悟りの境地を表現した作品について丁寧に説明していました。

Yoshida’s artworks were printed on the glass plates. He used classical techniques for his photography. His photographs of Japanese festival with men wearing masks were very popular there. People might have been fascinated by the mysterious world of Yokai.
日本の仮面を付ける祭りを題材に、古典技法でガラス板に表現した吉田先生の作品は大人気。妖怪の不思議な世界に魅了された方々が多かった。

Yoshida had made a great effort to make this happen this time. Thanks to him, we could join the international festival in Novosibirsk. He and the rector of NSUADA signed a memorandum as a future of a proof of goodwill.
今回の国際フェステイバルへの参加を実現してくださった吉田先生とNSUADAの学長とが、今後の友好の証としての覚書に互いに調印しました。

Natalia Bagrova, the rector of NSUADA invited us lunch in her room where nice artworks were decorated. She also arranged a city sightseeing tour for us. We got a very kind hospitality from her.
素晴らしいアート作品が飾られたナタリア学長の学長室にて、ランチをご馳走していただきました。市内観光を手配してくださったり、本当に手厚いおもてなしをしていただきました。

After lunch, we got some presents from her and she showed us around the university. NSUADA seemed to be open and was such a vibrant university. We wish we could learn here even at our ages.
学長からは全員にお土産もいただいた後、学内を案内していただきました。自由で活気あるNSUADAは今からでも学びたくなる学舎でした。

It is a five-story building and the exhibition room is 600 square meters large. It plays an important role in spreading out the fine art culture in Novosibirsk.
5階建てのファインアートシティセンター。展示室は600平方メートルもの広さ。ノボシビルスクでファインアート文化を広める役割を果たしています。

Our exhibition was held in the largest room, which was in the center of the second floor. They decorated only our photographs in that room. So the exhibition was likely to be our own group photo exhibition.
SAMURAI FOTOの作品は2階中央に位置するもっとも広い展示室に飾っていただきました。この部屋はSAMURAI FOTOだけの展示で、私たちのグループ展のようにしてもいただいたことに感謝いたします。

In other two rooms of left and right, the artworks from other countries were exhibited. A total of 19 photographers from 6 countries such as Sweden joined the festival.
左右には2つの展示室があり、スウェーデンなど他の国の写真家の作品も展示されていました。総勢、世界6カ国、19名の写真作家が参加。

It is common to get some interviews from TV crews in the international festival and solo exhibition in abroad Yoshida has a lot of experiences of the interviews and he did a good job with the interviews.
海外でのソロショーや国際フェスティバルではプレス取材を受けることが日常的です。そんな習慣に慣れている吉田先生は堂々としたものでした。

Each member of SAMURAI FOTO also got interviews for gaining their experiences. As Chiyoda had got the interview before, she did well in the interview this time as well.
SAMURAI FOTOのメンバーそれぞれが経験値を上げるように、テレビ取材なども交代で受けてもらいました。千代田さんはこのような取材に慣れていて素晴らしかったです。

Irina of Hokkaido cultural center in Novosibirsk helped us to communicate with people as the interpreter.
今回はノボシビルクにある北海道文化センターのイリナさんが日本語からロシア語に通訳してくださったので、とても助かりました。

A lot of people, especially the media representatives, came to the opening ceremony. It was the international festival and it got a lot of press attention.
オープニングセレモニーには本当にたくさんの方々が来てくださいました。国際フェスティバルということもあり、とくにプレス関係者が多かったようです。

The mayor came to the ceremony, too. He had the same ideal as ours that fine art could make a cultural bridge between countries.
ノボシビルスク市長も駆けつけてくださいました。ファインアートを架け橋として、いろんな国と繋がっていきたいという想いは私たちと同じでした。

We were introduced at the ceremony. Yoshida gave a thank-you-speech. He mentioned our hope to keep the good relationship with Novosibirsk.
SAMURAIメンバーも紹介されました。吉田先生から招いていただいたことへの感謝と、今後もノボシビルスクとの友好関係を続けたい旨の挨拶をしました。

There was a live performance of the grand piano, which made the atmosphere more comfortable.
エグジビションに音楽があるととてもいい雰囲気になりますが、ここではなんとグランドピアノの生演奏。贅沢な展示空間です。

We were asked for pictures there. Chiyoda was with Prof. Dina Sin, Natalia Bagrova, a rector of NSUADA and Inna Osromenskaya from Fine art center.
会場ではあちこちで記念撮影を求められました。千代田さんはNSUADAのディナ教授とナタリア学長、ファインアートシティセンターのイナさんに囲まれて……。

This is a student volunteer, John. He had helped us almost everything during our stay.
右はディナ教授の学生ジョンくん。空港への送迎、市内観光、さらには夕食のレストランまで滞在中ずっとボランティアとしてサポートしてくれました。

Yoshida and Hasumi went to the Russian radio station with Andrey from morning. There, they announced the photo exhibition. After that they had some interviews from TV as well.
吉田先生と蓮見さん、アンドレイさんはEXHIBITIONの告知のため、朝からラジオ局へ。その後もテレビ取材を受けました。

Prof. Dina Sin and Prof. Nikolay Zhurin took us to the city sightseeing tour. We saw the church, the Railway Museum and Novosibirsk Rail Bridge. At the end of the tour, we enjoyed Russian desert at a café.
ディナ教授とニコライ教授にご案内していただき、教会や鉄道博物館、オビ川鉄橋などを見て、ロシアのデザートでティータイム過ごしました。

We were all free on the last day, and Dina spent her time with us. She took us to the shopping mall and the market. She showed Novosibirsk station and the zoo. She was so kind to us and we all thanked her hospitality. Dina recommended the Ukrainian special dish and it was so tasty.
最終日19日はフリーでしたが、ディナさんが駅や動物園、マーケットやショッピングモールを一日中案内してくださいました。その親切さに頭が下がりました。ディナさんオススメのウクライナ名物はとても美味しかったです。

On the evening of the first day for public, we had a talk show. More people came than the former day. We felt their deep interests into arts of this city.
一般開催初日の夕方にはトークショーを実施。オープン前の前日よりもさらに多くの方が来てくださって、芸術と文化に造詣の深い街らしさを感じました。

Andrey led the talk show. We discussed the differences of the photography between Japan and overseas.
ノボシビルスクの写真家の方(左)とともに、東西(日本のロシアや欧米)の写真表現の違いについて、アンドレイさんの司会で熱く語り合いました。

We got many questions from the audience. They showed their interests how we connected our artist statements to the artworks.
皆さんからは多くの質問をいただきました。とくに「ステートメントをどのように作品表現に結びつけるか」に興味を持たれました。

In the Portfolio Walk, people can pick up the artworks and see and talk with the photographers directly. It is a great opportunity to feel the international exchanging.
ポートフォリオ・ウォークは作品を手に取って見てもらうことができ、来場者と直に話すことができます。国際交流をしている実感が感じられる素晴らしい機会です。

Sato talked with a local photographer over his artworks. As they both liked cold places, they exchanged the information about the shooting location.
地元ノボシビルスクの写真家の作品を見せてもらう佐藤さん。寒いところが好きな作家同士で、撮影地についてのいい情報交換ができたようです。

People in Novosibirsk asked us for autographs. Before we left Japan, Yoshida advised us to bring pens. Now we understood what he meant.
ノボシビルスクの方々からは本当に多くのサインを求められました。吉田先生のアドバイスで署名用のペンを日本から持っていってよかったです。

Aoyama showed her new artworks to Andrey. He advised some tips for her.
新作をアンドレイさんに見てもらう青山さん。アブストラクトな作品で気をつけなければならない点など、的確なアドバイスをたくさんしていただきました。

Olesya of the Fine art city center came to see us off. She was very helpful for our exhibition this time.
私たちの出発に間に合うようにファインアートシティセンターのオレシャさんが駆け付けてくださいました。今回の展示に関してとてもお世話になった方です。

This is the autograph letter from the Fine art city center. It says “we hope this good friendship will last long.” We were impressed by the hospitality of the people in Novosibirsk.
オレシャさんから渡された親書。「末長い協力体制を続けましょう」という嬉しい言葉が書かれています。今回の滞在ではノポシビルスクの方々のこういう細やかな心遣いに何度も感激しました。
