Gene Dominique earned a photojournalism degree at San Jose State University. After a thirty year business career, ten years ago Gene returned to his passion: a full-time photography art practice.
Gene's explorations include a variety of genres from documentary, to portraiture, surrealism and alternative photographic processes. Gene has an active studio practice. He has a particular interest in an on-going series of floral still lifes and portraits. Examples of Gene's new and archival works abound in his bright, sunlit studio. Photographs, large and small, along with props, tools, supplies, and a variety of inspirational objects, including wilted and dried flowers, fill the space.

Projects

Floral Portraits
Floral Portraits explores flowers as both subjects and as metaphor—clarity, presence, and quiet radiance. Color, texture, and composition are approached with the same intention as human portraiture, revealing character through light, gesture, and form rather than ornament. Restrained compositions allow the curve of a stem or the translucence of a petal to become a moment. Light and color unify each image, honoring flowers at varied stages and inviting contemplation of balance, endurance, and the luminous grace of the uncelebrated.

本作『Floral Portraits』は、花を単なる被写体としてだけでなく、ひとつのメタファー（暗喩）として探究した作品です。そこにあるのは、明晰さ、存在感、そして静かな輝きです。 色彩、質感、そして構図。これらはすべて、人物の肖像写真を撮る時と同じ熱量で向き合っています。装飾としてではなく、光、仕草、そしてフォルムを通して、花そのものが持つ「人格（キャラクター）」を浮き彫りにします。 抑制された構図の中で、茎の曲線や花びらの透徹さは、かけがえのない瞬間へと昇華されます。光と色が各作品を調和させ、あらゆる段階にある花の姿を称えるとともに、均衡や忍耐、そして日常に埋もれた美しく優雅な光——「名もなきものの輝き」——への静かな思索へと誘います。
