Sue Park is a photographer based in Los Angeles and the director of Shatto Gallery. A graduate of the New York Institute of Photography and Seoul National University, Park began her photography career in the 1990s. Park’s work, often inspired by landscapes and intricate patterns, reflects her deep appreciation for beauty that transcends words, blending memories with a passion for the present and future. Her mission is to capture fleeting moments of beauty and make them eternal. She has had numerous solo exhibitions, including “Sue Park’s Photography” in Moscow, “Sue Park’s Trajectories” in Uzbekistan, and “Sounds of Silence” in Italy. In addition to her exhibitions, she has published several books, including Anthology of Light (2024) and Monovision (2021). Park has won numerous prestigious awards, including “Photographer of the Year” from the International Photography Awards.

Sue Parkはロサンゼルスを拠点とする写真家であり、シャトー・ギャラリーのディレクターを務めています。ニューヨーク・インスティテュート・オブ・フォトグラフィーおよびソウル大学を卒業後、1990年代に写真家としてのキャリアをスタートさせました。

Projects

My journey as a photographer over the past 30 years can be summarized as wandering in search of light. The hunt for light begins when I carry a camera and set out to find a subject.
If there is no light in the world, everything becomes meaningless for a photographer. This world is so beautiful because there is light, and without light, the true beauty of the world cannot be revealed.
The daylight streamed by the sun, the moonlight breaking though the darkness of night, light pouring down the sides of a mountain, and the rays of light brightening the grasses of a plain always make my heart tremble in awe.
Photography is the art of capturing light. Light is the essential ingredient used by a photographer when he or she captures the beauty of the world. I daringly want to say that photography is a poem composed of light. Just as poetry is the written expression of the poet's heart, so is photography the visual expression of the photographer's heart.
My hope is that my photographs will be understood as poems, telling a story through light

私の写真家としての30年間の旅は、光を求めてさまよい続けた時間だったと言えるでしょう。
カメラを手にし、被写体を探しに出かけるとき、光を求める旅が始まります。
もしこの世界に光がなければ、写真家にとってすべては無意味なものとなってしまうでしょう。
世界がこれほど美しいのは、そこに光があるからです。光がなければ、この世界の真の美しさを映し出すことはできません。
太陽が降り注ぐ陽光、夜の闇を切り裂く月の光、山の斜面を流れ落ちる光、草原を照らす一筋の光——それらすべてが、私の心を震わせ、畏敬の念を抱かせます。
写真とは、光を捉える芸術です。
写真家が世界の美を切り取るとき、最も重要な要素となるのは光です。
私は敢えてこう言いたい——写真とは、光で綴られた詩であると。
詩が詩人の心を言葉で表現するように、写真は写真家の心を視覚的に表現するものなのです。
私の写真が、光を通して物語を紡ぐ詩のように感じてもらえたら——それが私の願いです。
