Profile

I was born in Shiga prefecture in 1958. Every time natural disaster occurs around us, I feel sad our nature is destroying and disappearing. And our life is threatened by the global warming as well. I believe that the spirituality and wisdom that we have gained through the long history of natural disaster will help us to overcome human crisis. I hope that my photographic art causes a stir in the world and it will raise concerns over the issue of coexisting with nature. In my artworks, I outlined the object like Ukiyo-e. When I add the outline on the photo, it gives a strong impression and it looks effective, which attracted me so much. My goal is not realism in photography. While using the technique of realism, I make my artworks in the Ukiyo-e style. I respect nature and I try to express my philosophy of how people and nature exist together in my artworks.

Human beings are powerless in front of nature. We should rethink how to maintain a balance of living with nature and live together with them.
Since ancient times, we have been suffered from many natural disasters. From those painful experiences, we have had a feeling of awe for nature in our daily lives. In shrines, birds or rabbits are worshiped as messengers of deities, which are showing reverence for nature.
“Mujo” is a philosophy that we have in our mind and it gives a clue how to overcome the sorrow and emptiness that follow the natural disasters. And it also teaches us how to live with nature. Everything is impermanent. Life changes all the time. Even if it is a hard time for someone now, the things will get better soon next. The philosophy of “Mujo” is the source of moving forward. I hope people will feel it through my artworks.

Simple & Minimal (2018-2019)
I want to pursue what the freedom of expression is. In paintings, for example, you only paint what you want and you don’t give any descriptions of the object if it isn’t needed. I want to do it in my photography. I don’t want to block human’s free imagination because of the expression of the reality within the photographs. People would be stirred the interest freely from my artworks. This is my ideal for the photography.
I believe that being simple and minimal enriches people’s thoughts and imaginations, it leads to the liberation of the mind and give us a peaceful mind.

God's Silent Messengers (2016-2017)
Among the Shinto-shrines, there are many places that enshrine familiar animals as messengers of God. They stand silently near the entrance to the shrine or the warship hall and protect sanctuary area. As for me, they seem to warn human beings who forget the feeling of awe for nature and cause severe environmental destruction. I think they try to tell us to get back the good balance with nature and human beings for the next generation.
