Hasumi has started a new project that is completely different from his previous solar farm project. Deborah praised his calm, Japanese-style work, calling it “a Japanese flower arrangement”. She suggested Hasumi that he should name the artwork “Illumination”, meaning it lightens people’s hearts.

蓮見さんも現在の巨大な太陽光発電ファームのプロジェクトからガラリと180度変わった新プロジェクトについて講評していただきました。とても日本的な静かな作品は「まるで生け花のよう」とデボラさんも絶賛。「タイトルはイルミネーションがいい」とタイトルのご提案まで。「心に灯りを灯す」というような意味のようです。

John Einarsen(left) is a photographer, a director, and a founding editor of Kyoto Journal. He held the exhibition, “Sharing visitors: The Heart work of Kyoto Journal” at the Shimadai Gallery. This gallery is a renovated traditional townhouse. It was built during the Meiji era. John exhibited Yoshida Shigeru’s artworks at the event.

ジョン・アイナーセン(写真左)さんは写真家で”Kyoto Journal”誌の創刊編集長でディレクターです。京都グラフィー2025では明治16年建築の京町家をリノベーションした嶋臺（しまだい）ギャラリーで”Sharing Visions : The Heartwork of Kyoto Journal“という展覧会を開催。吉田繁先生の作品を展示してくださいました。

The Kyoto Journal is a self-published magazine that has been published in Kyoto for 40 years. It can be called "independent" because of its unconventional style. Artistic photography plays an important role. This issue showcases a selection of the most fascinating photographs and their stories from past works.

“KyotoJournal”は京都を拠点に40年近くにわたり発行され続けている商業メディアの枠にとらわれないインディペンデントな自費出版の雑誌です。アーティスティックな写真作品が重要な役割を果たしています。今回は過去108号の中から最も魅力的な写真とそのストーリーを厳選して発表しています。

John believes that culture is one of humanity’s most precious creations. He explores different traditions in Asian countries, especially in Kyoto, Japan. Also, he tries to pursue a creative life in the modern day and share it with others. SAMURAI members, who create Japanese-style artwork, had a chance to show their projects to John. They received feedback and enjoyed the experience.

文化こそが人類にとって最も貴重な創造物のひとつであるとし、京都・日本・アジアの多様な伝統と現代のクリエイティブな暮らしを探求し、共有することに努めているというジョンさん。SAMURAI FOTOの中でも日本的な作品を制作してきたメンバーのプロジェクトを見ていただき、貴重なご意見をいただきました。

Transcendence as the connecting theme of this exhibition is reflected in artwork that is spiritual and emotional, guiding viewers to a new understanding of humanity. While the artists represented here reflect diverse subject matter in their work, there are several unifying factors that define the photographs in this exhibition. The artists have all refined their unique personal visions on a conceptual and emotive level, and at the same time demonstrate a mastery of craftsmanship.
Most importantly, their work is transcendent and reflective of our shared humanity. Each body of work, in its own way, demonstrates experience beyond the normal or physical level. The theme of Transcendence is explored through the sections--Nature, Journey, Humanity, and Essence/Abstraction. At first glance, each of these sections may appear very different from one another. However, as Desmond Tutu stated, “We can only be human together.” By engaging with this work, we can discover diverse pathways to ideas that are transcendent, rising above the everyday, while bringing us together and leading the way to new levels of appreciation and understanding.
As the philosopher Sri Chinmoy wrote, “Listen to the inner light; it will guide you. Listen to inner peace; it will feed you.” The photographers in this exhibition have demonstrated that art reflects our shared humanity and can guide us to a new level of transcendence on the journey to inner peace and understanding. It is our “inner light” that defines our humanity.

この展覧会のテーマである「超越」は、精神的で感情的な作品に表れ、鑑賞者に人間性への新たな理解を促します。ここに展示されたアーティストたちは、それぞれ異なる主題を取り上げていますが、この展覧会における写真にはいくつかの共通した要素が存在します。アーティストたちは皆、概念的かつ感情的なレベルで独自の個人的なビジョンを磨き上げており、その一方で技術的な熟練も示しています。
最も重要なのは、彼らの作品が超越的であり、私たちの共有する人間性を反映していることです。それぞれの作品群は、通常の物理的なレベルを超えた経験を示しています。超越のテーマは、「自然」「旅」「人間性」「本質／抽象」のセクションを通して探求されています。一見すると、これらのセクションは非常に異なっているように見えるかもしれません。しかし、デズモンド・ツツが言ったように「私たちは共に人間であることしかできません」。この作品に触れることで、私たちは日常を超越したアイデアに至る多様な道を発見し、私たちを結びつけ、新たな鑑賞と理解のレベルへと導いてくれます。
哲学者スリ・チンモイが言ったように、「内なる光に耳を傾けなさい。それがあなたを導くでしょう。内なる平和に耳を傾けなさい。それがあなたを養うでしょう。」この展覧会の写真家たちは、アートが私たちの共有する人間性を反映し、内なる平和と理解への旅の中で新たな超越のレベルへと私たちを導くことを示しています。それこそが、私たちの人間性を定義する「内なる光」なのです。
