Each member showed artworks for the group exhibition in 2020 and got feedbacks from other members.
2020年のグループ展のための各自の作品をブラッシュアップするための講評会を行いました。

We had our first group exhibition in Novosibirsk, Russia in April 2018 and our second one will be held in LA in October this year.
The artworks that we exhibit for LA have already been decided but we haven’t decided which ones should be exhibited for the exhibition in Italy and in St. Petersburg.
We’ve begun to discuss and give feedbacks on each other’s artworks and statements in order to improve as individuals as well as a group.
今年2018年には4月にロシアのノボシビルスク国際写真展において、海外で初のグループ展を行いましたが、10月にはアメリア・ロサンゼルスのギャラリーでのグループ展も決定しています。こちらの出展作品はすでに決まっていますが、来年4月のイタリアのギャラリー、秋のサンクトペテルブルグの美術館でのグループ展にどんな作品を出展するのかは決定していません。個人としてはもちろんのこと、グループとしてもレベルアップしていくために、作品とステートメントの講評会を始めています。

新メンバーの作品発表(恩田大輔、ATOM)
Onda, who had gotten ZOOM JAPAN AWARD 2016, is also a new to us. He has started to rewrite his statement to brush up on the artworks which were exhibited in Paris once.
ZOOM JAPAN AWARD 2016の受賞者である恩田さんはパリに展示された作品群をブラッシュアップさせるためステートメントの再構築から取り組み始めたという。
ATOM, a new member had joined Portfolio Review in Arles in July. He creates artworks in minimalism style. His way of thinking and observing point of view is really unique.
7月にアルルでポートフォリオレビューを受けてきたというATOMさんはミニマムだが、ユニークな視点から表現した作品を発表してくれました。
These new members’ artworks were all new to us. So, we gave them various opinions with expectation.
新メンバーの作品はこれまでのメンバーの作品にはない表現。それだけにエールを込めて、さまざまな意見が熱く語られました。
Yoshida was selected as a jury of the International Photo Festival
国際写真フェスティバルの審査員に選出(吉田繁)
Yoshida was asked to be a jury of the photo contest in PhotoVisa in November this year. PhotoVisa is held in Krasnodar every November in southern Russia.
ロシア南部の芸術都市グラスナダールで毎年11月開催されてきたPhotoVisaの中のフォトコンテストの審査員に選ばれた吉田先生。
This photo is when Yoshida was invited to the 11th PhotoVisa in 2014. Yoshida gave an hour and a half photography lecture all in English, and he says it was a good experience for him and is of a good help. The link of his report is here.

Feedbacks on artworks (Seiji Kazui, Koji Murata and Koji Sasaki)
作品講評会(数井星司、村田光司、佐々木浩二)
Kazui has been making artworks of Ainu people. The more he gains the knowledge about them, the more the interests for them get deeper. His works give us the strong impression.
日本の先住民族ともいわれるアイヌの作品に取り組んでいる数井さん。知れば知るほど興味が深くなるというだけにその作品もとても力がありました。
Murata has been working on the Japanese style photography with 12 pieces for a long time. He’s been trying and changing the way of printing little by little, to express in details. At the every workshop, he shows them and asks for the opinions from members.
日本画風の12枚作品に取り組んでいる村田さん。細部にこだわった表現のため、プリント法や補正を微妙に変えて、毎月のように勉強会で発表しています。
He says it takes more than 2 months to finish one work. He has tried various ideas on them so they got far better than the early works.
1枚仕上げるのに2カ月以上はかかっているという作品。何度も手を加えられた作品は最初に発表してくれたものよりもはるかにレベルアップしていました。
Finally, Murata finished the artwork with 12 photographs. Then he has made a photo book using washi paper. With some captions, the photo book has a good effect and is the one and only best.
12枚シリーズを完成させた村田さんはそれらを網羅した手製の和紙本にも着手。文章も入った雰囲気のある写真集は唯一無二の作品集にもなっていました。
Sasaki has become more ambitious for making new artworks since he had experienced TAP and exhibition in Novosibirsk last year. He showed his new artwork of ‘cut’ motif.
昨年のTAPやノボシビルスクなど海外へ赴くようになってさらに新作に意欲的な佐々木浩二さんは今回も「切通し」がモチーフの新作を発表してくれました。
SAMURAI FOTO’s feedbacks are sometimes more severe than Portfolio Review. Thanks to them, we enhance each other’s creativity.
ポートフォリオレビューよりも厳しい意見が出ることも多いSAMURAI FOTO講評会。でも、それがお互いを向上させているのではないでしょうか。
