Contrast between past and present、Contemporary Art for the Future

過去と現在、未来を考える現代アート

This is the artwork that the members of SAMURAI FOTO worked together to create.
We superimposed our own photographs on the Katsushika Hokusai’s original printings for contrast. To face the ukiyo-e paintings of Japan’s most famous ukiyo-e artist of the Edo period, we think it necessary to take as many photographers’ perspectives and versatile abilities as possible. When they become one, the moment we live will emerge more vividly.
There is a Zen saying, "Zen-go-sai-dan," which means, "We are all anxious about the future. However, we should observe the present and do what we can, rather than regretting the past or worrying about the future, to live so, it leads to better results.”
In this project, we try to understand our lives and the societies that we are today. We keep working on our artworks and wish for a bright future.

この作品はSAMURAI FOTOのアーティストたちが力を合わせてつくり上げたものです。
葛飾北斎の原画の上に私たちの写真を重ねて対比するプロジェクトです。
日本を代表する絵師が描いた江戸の浮世絵と向き合うためには、多くのアーティストの目と多才な個性が必要でした。それらがひとつになることで私たちが生きている瞬間がより鮮明に浮かび上がるだろうと考えました。
「前後際断（ぜんごさいだん）」という禅の言葉があります。私たちは未来について不安を抱くことがありますが、過去を後悔し未来を心配することより、今をよく観察し、できることからやる方が良い結果を導くという教えです。
このプロジェクトは今を生きる私たちや社会をより深く理解しようという試みです。明るい未来を願いつつ、これからも創作に取り組んでいきます。
