Profile

Sometimes, scenery that I can’t see in the real world pops into my head, like a flashback. Maybe the scenery exists somewhere in reality but memories intersect with the image and creates something that isn’t there. What you see now isn’t always the true aspect of the thing. We should recognize that the way of looking at things change by people and time and it also changes how you feel at the time. If we know it, there is no fight and discrepancy and we can live calmly. I want to express the scenery from various angles and appeal to not only the eye but the five senses.

Komyo (illuminating light)–Keep your mind open, then you will see the true aspect of the thing-
Why do people worry about the future? Sato thinks it because we can’t see the true aspect of the thing. For example, think about the insects. Insects and human beings see the completely different world due to the differences of visible range of wavelengths. As each of us has a different perspective and values, we are sometimes 180 degrees opposite from each other. There is something important to you at one time, however, you will see it differently after the long period of time, even the thing itself is the same. For Sasaki, it is cigarettes. He stopped smoking when his first baby was born. He took cigarettes as luxury goods at that time but after quitting, he thought cigarettes were harmful toxins. By way of example, waste household electric appliances are now called urban mine because it provides rare metals and other natural resources. Imaginary becomes reality. Good becomes evil. Treasure becomes junk. Garbage becomes valuables. What is the true aspect of the thing? Sato thinks the answer for this question is countless. He hopes the world will be full of imaginations and people will care for each other. By doing so, he believes many conflicts will disappear. Sato wants people to understand this idea through his artworks.

Incense smoke is considered a guidepost between this world and the spirit world. When I see the ever-changing smoke of incense sticks drifting in the air, I feel that I am witnessing the state of communication between people and spirits, between this world and the spirit world. It is said that we can communicate with the Buddha and the deceased through the smoke of incense sticks. In the smoke, we can see opposites such as quietness and noise, confusion and stability, anxiety and security, change and universality. It seems to me that this is a signal sent out by our ancestors and spirits.

The Heian-kyo Capital was built in the hope of overcoming disasters and epidemics, and to bring peace and tranquility to the city in the olden days. Modeled after Chang'an in the Tang Dynasty, the temple was built in the "Land of the Four Divinities," incorporating Feng Shui and Yin-Yang Dao, the philosophies introduced from China at that time.
Sinse a long time ago Japan, there is a method of expression called "Rusumoyou" It is a method to help people understand the essence of a story or a part of a thing or a scene around it by indirectly expressing the scene.
Using the "Rusumoyou" to represent the "land of the four Divinities," the peace and tranquility wished for by the ancients was expressed as the peace and tranquility of the present day.
