今年もCP+2018開催中に「みなとみらい駅」隣接の「サブウェイギャラリーM」にて、SAMURAI FOTO写真展を開催します。

SAMURAI FOTO has its 4th photo exhibition with the theme of “Making a beautiful bridge”. It’s been 5 years since SAMURAI FOTO was established. We have worked hard to widen our appeals to the fine art market in overseas. We have created wonderful outcomes such as being invited to the international photo festivals and attending some photo exhibitions at museums in foreign countries. Moreover, some of our members’ art works were purchased there.
What we were most happy about was to have developed relationships with many important people in art market. We have met curators of Photo museum in the U.S, organizers of International Photo Festival and many famous Photographic artists.
To share one of our cultural exchanges with you, we invited some photographers from San Francisco to our photo exhibition this time.

4回目を迎えたSAMURAI FOTO 写真展の今年のテーマは”Making of a beautiful bridge ～写真で世界と繋がろう～”です。設立から5年間が経過し、積極的に世界のファインアート市場に挑戦してきたSAMURAI FOTOでは国際写真フェスティバルへの招待や海外の美術館での写真展参加、作品販売などの成果を上げることができました。最も嬉しかったのはアメリカの写真美術館や国際写真フェスティバルのオーガナイザー、海外のPhotographic Artistたちとの交流が築けたこと。今回の写真展ではその交流の1つとしてサンフランシスコの写真家を招待しました。

You don’t need a special technique for making artworks but it’s necessary to retouch the photograph. Since the time we developed the film, we did photo retouching. I’d like to introduce the basic workflow of processing photo data maintaining the photo quality as much as possible, and basic photo printing technique.

特殊なことはしなくとも作品作りには何かしらのレタッチはどうしても必要になります。フィルム時代からレタッチは行われてきたのです。撮影したデータのクオリティをできるだけ落とさずに処理をするための基本ワークフローと、プリントのための基本ワークフローを紹介。

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you take a great picture and decorate your room with it? By learning photo printing technique, not only your photographic skill will be improved, but a small admiration will arise. Besides, various ideas for your artworks come to you when you take a long look at your print deeply. I’d like to tell you my story of how my artworks went bigger to make up the folding screen art. And I want to share some tips for making the wide-format printing.

1枚でもいいから自分の部屋に飾れるプリントがつくれたらそれはもう感動でしょう。プリントすることで写真が上手くなるだけでなく、小さな感動を生むのです。また、プリントを長く見ていることで今度は撮影をこうしようというアイディアも浮かびます。僕のプリントがどんどん大きくなって屏風までになった小さな感動の数々と、大判プリントの極意をお話しします。

神宮ゆかりの伊勢和紙で味わい深い作品

As it has been a purveyor paper to The Ise Grand Shrine, People have improved the technique of making Ise Washi paper for over 100 years. It was originally made from Kozo, Mitsumata, Ganpi, Basho and long fiber conifer. The quality of this plant-fiber paper blends well with thickness of the color and give graded effect to the photograph print. It creates a beautiful art. Today, members of SAMURAI FOTO will tell you why they chose the Washi paper for their photo printings and what they want their artworks to be done with this paper. Also, they will discuss about the unique aspect of the Washi paper. Let’s look toward the future of the photographic expression with us.

神宮御用紙として100年以上にわたり技術を培ってきた伊勢和紙。コウゾ・ミツマタ・ガンピ・バショウ、そして長繊維針葉樹。植物繊維の織りなす肌合いが、濃淡を受け止めアートを生み出します。今回は、Samurai Fotoの皆さんから、和紙を選ぶに至った過程や和紙に求める画像、和紙ならではの成果などをお話しいただいて、これからの写真表現を展望します。

“SANKEIKEN GARDEN” EXPRESS JAPANESE ELEGANCE IN WET PLATE PHOTOGRAPH

「湿板光画で日本の雅『三渓園』を表現する」

It is 150th anniversary of Sankei Hara’s birth this year. I have taken pictures of the series of flower arrangements, made by Socho Fujiwara, a head master of Kajiinomiyagoryu(桃井宮御流) throughout the year. I set a mobile darkroom near the photographing site. I made wet plate negatives there and the exposure time was more than 10 minutes because of the low humidity. It produced a wonderful effect for the artworks. I’d like to show you how attractive the wet plate photographs are. Please enjoy the old-fashioned Japanese calmness in my artworks.

今年は三渓園の創設者原三渓の生誕150周年。この茶室などで桃井宮御流家元・藤原素朝先生が作った「花の室礼」シリーズを一年かけて撮影しました。現場付近で携帯暗室を設置し湿ったグラスのネガを作りましたが、感度が低いため露光時間は10分以上。そんな時間が不思議な効果を生むとともに、古式ゆかしい日本の静けさを表現する湿板光画の魅力を紹介します。
